Healing from afar: Telemedicine's Growth and Regulation in Nigeria

This paper evaluates the current legal framework and state of telemedicine practice in Nigeria and a number of other countries. Findings from our analysis of trends across Canada, Kenya, Thailand, Singapore, South Africa, the United States, and the United Kingdom indicate a commonality of interest amongst regulatory authorities in licensing (telemedicine practice across and within national and state borders), protection of sensitive data, privacy and data protection, cybersecurity, and other areas requiring policy and regulatory oversight applicable to the development of a functional telemedicine system in Nigeria. The COVID-19 pandemic has further exposed the inadequacies in orthodox medical practice lending impetus to the adoption of a series of telemedicine-friendly regulations across the world.
